Equality PA congratulates Reading for passing ‘conversion’ therapy ban; local LGBT centers led effort to protect youth

READING, PA – On Monday, December 18, 2017, Reading (Pennsylvania) City Council unanimously voted to approve a ban on ‘conversion’ therapy in the city. The ordinance was introduced by Councilman John Slifko and proposed by Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and the LGBT Community Center of Greater Reading. Continue reading.

New Legal Guide Released for LGBTQ Families in Pennsylvania

 Family Equality Council and Equality Pennsylvania are pleased to release a new legal guide for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) families living in Pennsylvania. This resource provides LGBTQ-headed families and LGBTQ adults considering forming families with detailed and accessible explanations of the current status of federal and state law, including recognition of same-sex marriages, parental rights, adoption, applying for documentation for children, nondiscrimination protections, school policies, healthcare, parental leave, and more. The guide also includes a list of legal documents it is recommended that all LGBTQ families secure in order to ensure their rights and wishes are respected. Continue reading.

LGBT Groups and Allies from Around Pennsylvania Sign on to Unity Pledge to Prevent the Rollback of LGBT Rights

Harrisburg – Today groups representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and allies released a unity pledge to fight against any rollbacks of LGBT rights in the coming years. After a hard fought election cycle, many groups are concerned that LGBT rights may be on the chopping block in the new administration.
