“Each endorsed candidate has pledged to work with their colleagues to pass legislation and advocate for fairness, equality, equity, and justice,” said John Dawe, Interim Executive Director of Equality Pennsylvania. “These are the core values of Equality Pennsylvania and we are excited to stand behind a candidate who shares them.”

According to Dawe, Equality Pennsylvania received more than 130 endorsement requests and expects to announce additional endorsements in the future.  Dawe added that the focus right now is on candidates with competitive primaries.

“Our endorsement committee also has added a special focus on supporting openly LGBTQ candidates,” said Dawe.

Boeving-Learned, McGonigle, Aucker-Endres, Wascovich, Ruff, and Metcalfe each identify as LGBTQ candidates.  Previously endorsed LGBTQ candidates include Daniel Smith, Jr. (HD 12), Kristin Seale (HD 168), Malcolm Kenyatta (HD 181), and Brian Sims (Hd 182).

About the Endorsement Process:

Applicants complete an endorsement questionnaire containing 25 scored objective questions and 4 open-response questions.  Open response questions are scored with criteria determined by the endorsement committee and professional staff. Incumbent records are also scrutinized and scored. In the case of a tie, candidates who are openly LGBTQ, have previous public office experience, or are from underrepresented communities are favored.  More info at http://eqpa.org/run2018.
