Equality PA Thanks Rep. Dan Frankel and Rep. Brian Sims for Moving Nondiscrimination Legislation Forward

Harrisburg – This week, Rep. Dan Frankel and Rep. Brian Sims introduced a discharge resolution to move the PA Fairness Act out of committee and to the floor of the PA State House for a vote. Nondiscrimination legislation has been the highest priority of Equality PA for more than a decade and Equality PA has been working to convince the legislature to pass the PA Fairness Act to provide comprehensive protections from discrimination for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in employment, housing, and business and government services.

Ted Martin, Equality PA Executive Director, thanked Rep. Frankel and Rep. Brian Sims saying, “More than 70% of Pennsylvanians support protecting LGBT people from discrimination in employment, housing, and business and government services. And the over a quarter of a million LGBT people in Pennsylvania deserve to be able to build a life for themselves and their families without discrimination. That’s why we are grateful to Rep. Dan Frankel and Rep. Brian Sims for taking this important step to make sure that this legislation gets a fair hearing and vote in the PA State House.”

Currently there are no federal or state protections from discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodations based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

With 60,000 members across the commonwealth, Equality Pennsylvania is the leading organization advancing equality and opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Pennsylvanians.
