Equality PA launches #RaiseTheScore Program

We’re excited to share with you that Equality Pennsylvania is launching a new program in 2018 we’re calling #RaiseTheScore. In October 2017, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Equality Federation Institute released the 6th Annual Municipal Equality Index, assessing LGBTQ equality in 506 cities across the nation, including 10 in Pennsylvania.   While we are excited for the Cities of Allentown, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh that scored 100, the other 7 ranked cities didn’t fare so well.  Even cities that have municipal ordinances protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination have some work to do — such as State College (73%), Wilkes-Barre (62%), Harrisburg (56%), and Erie (39%).

As part of #RaiseTheScore, Equality Pennsylvania will select municipalities where we can make significant progress in improving the lives of LGBTQ citizens who live and work there and where we have a solid base of supporters ready to take action. HRC will provide an initial ranking of that municipality for us. We’ll then invest significant time and resources in building a culture of equality and inclusivity in those places, raising the Municipal Equality Score.

This is where we need your help. If you think your municipality is a place where Equality Pennsylvania can help raise the municipal equality score, click here and make a suggestion!

Selected municipalities or local community supporters will need to cover some travel and project expenses and Equality Pennsylvania’s Education Fund will match with grant dollars.  All municipalities and community leaders in them will be able to participate in #RaiseTheScore trainings.

We look forward to reviewing your #RaiseTheScore suggestions and continuing our work to improve the lives of LGBTQ Pennsylvanians in 2018.

We want to get started right away, so if you have suggestions… make them today!
