Equality is not a partisan issue, it’s a ‘people’ issue

Equality PA encourages all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Voters and Allies to vote for equality on November 4th

Statement from Ted Martin, Executive Director, Equality PA:

While the big victory for equality on marriage this year was a reason to celebrate, there are still plenty of fronts for the LGBT community to achieve equality. Many people are surprised to learn that it is still legal in Pennsylvania to be fired from your job, evicted from your home, or turned away from a business just for being gay or transgender. Sexual orientation and gender identity are not included in hate crimes protections at the state level. Pennsylvania schools don’t have adequate guidance on how to prevent bullying to protect LGBT kids. Funding for programs to prevent the spread of HIV is woefully inadequate. And that’s just the short list. There are plenty of reasons to vote for equality tomorrow—and there are equality champions on both sides of the aisle.

We encourage everyone to vote for Tom Wolf for governor, and to check out our voter guide for candidates like Chuck McIlheny, Republican for State Senate and Chris Ross, Republican member of the LGBT caucus for State House, who will fight for equality in Harrisburg.  Remember, equality is not a partisan issue, it’s a ‘people’ issue.

The most important thing to remember is that our votes matter and we encourage every member of the LGBT community and all of our allies to vote for equality tomorrow, November 4.
