THE ORGANIZATION
Founded in 1996 as the Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights, Equality Pennsylvania is the only organization in the Commonwealth advocating in Harrisburg and across the state, exclusively for the rights of LGBT Pennsylvanians.

Our central goal is to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Pennsylvanians through education, policy and legislation.  More than a decade ago, Equality Pennsylvania was a volunteer-based 501(c)3 organization.  Today, we have full – time staff, and a broad and active membership base that stretches across the state, including robust field and communications departments. Staff are spread throughout affiliated 501(c)3, 501(c)4, and PAC organizations.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Equality PA will run electoral field this Fall to see LGBT supportive candidates win the 2016 Presidential Elections. Alongside get out the vote efforts, this campaign will educate the public about the fact that it is still legal in Pennsylvania to be fired from your job, evicted from your home, or turned away from a business just for being LGBT. Unfortunately, many people in Pennsylvania don’t realize that the LGBT community does not have clear discrimination protections. This election season, we will harness the support of LGBT community members and allies to vote for candidates who will take a stand for equality.

THE POSITION
Specifically, the Campaign Manager will:
●    Recruit community members and activists to join the campaign and support LGBT equality on Election Day;
●    Hire, onboard and manage paid door-to-door canvassers and volunteers to get out the vote;
●    Run trainings with staff and volunteers for effective persuasion and proper messaging at the door;
●    Hold the campaign team accountable to achieving metrics;
●    Track the campaigns data using NGP VAN.
●    Canvass door-to-door with staff weekly.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
We seek a highly motivated candidate with a background in field organizing and a commitment to social justice. This person must be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, and creative.

This person will be capable of taking responsibility for specific goals and measurable outcomes within designated time frames and will be able to coordinate multi-task initiatives to successful conclusion. Self-motivation is key, as the workload of this job will steadily increase toward November 8th.

The successful candidate will have significant field experience around issues or candidates, including experience working with diverse communities and coalitions.

Qualified individuals will ideally bring two to three years of progressively responsible experience in grassroots organizing.  Candidates will also have the ability to maintain flexible work hours including weekends and evening hours. The position will require a driver’s licence.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
●    Cultural competency in working in and with the LGBT community and, in particular, transgender communities of color
●    Community organizing, education and/or policy advocacy experience (in a paid or volunteer position)
●    Basic understanding of how a paid canvass works
●    Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, speak in public, and facilitate large and small meetings
●    Ability to work without close supervision on both assigned and self-initiated tasks
●    Demonstrated ability to achieve set campaign goals and metrics
●    Experience using standard office technology

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
●    Experience using the NGP Voter Activation Network database
●    Staff management

COMPENSATION
Salary will be competitive and based on experience.  This position is currently budgeted from now until the election.
