The legislature is back, and we need your help

On Monday, September 26, the Pennsylvania Senate will reconvene for its final session of the year. Legislators will only have a few weeks to move forward on several important bills, and we need to make sure they make protecting LGBT people from discrimination a priority.

In fact, there is a bill ready right now that would protect LGBT people from discrimination in housing and employment—Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman just needs to schedule it for a vote.

This bill has already passed the Senate Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and is in the Senate Rules Committee. Senator Corman, as chairman of the Rules Committee can call this bill up for a vote.

Dial 717-787-1377 now and urge Senator Corman to schedule a vote on this critical bill before the session ends. Here’s a sample script:

Hi, my name is __________ and I’m calling to urge Majority Leader Corman to call a vote on SB 1307 before the end of this legislative session. LGBT people urgently need these protections and Pennsylvania’s economy can’t wait one more day for lawmakers to affirm that our state is open for business to everyone. Thank you!

Earlier in the summer, when a similar bill protecting LGBT Pennsylvanians faced challenges in moving forward, we effectively worked with lawmakers to schedule a hearing that took place in late August.  Now, we need to build on the success of that hearing to ensure that the legislation receives a final passage vote in the Senate.

The fact is: We’ve waited for more than a decade for lawmakers to take action on the issue of LGBT nondiscrimination protections. 78% of Pennsylvanians support it, businesses are calling for it and our economy needs it—it’s time to act.

Tell Senator Corman: Please call a vote on SB 1307 before the session ends. Dial 717-787-1377 to call for movement on this critical bill before session ends!
