State’s Largest Employer Rolls Out Inclusive Family Leave Policy

We are so excited to announce that UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) has updated their family leave policies to ensure that committed same-sex couples are given the same measure of protection as all families!

When Greg, an employee at UPMC, needed to care for his sick partner of 17 years, he was denied his request to take leave. Greg told us his story, and we immediately reached out to UPMC to learn more about their family leave policy.

After we alerted them to the hurtful gaps in their leave policy, UPMC immediately got to work examining all their policies, and they quickly updated them to include same-sex couples. As the largest employer in the state, UPMC has taken several big steps toward creating an inclusive workplace, and we thank them for taking this step to ensure a safe and welcoming workplace for LGBT people.

But UPMC’s commitment to fairness and equality isn’t confined to their walls. They’ve also pledged their support to HB/SB300, the bill to protect LGBT people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. UPMC is sending a clear message to our lawmakers: we believe in treating all people fairly and equally.

We are so grateful for UPMC’s commitment to equality for all. Thank you, UPMC, for being a leader in Pennsylvania!
