Put your faith into action today

Pennsylvania People of Faith:

The time to put our faith into action has come!

It is critical that our 800 faith leaders and more than 2000 lay people of faith take action in the coming weeks to support the Pennsylvania Fairness Act, which would protect LGBT people in our state from being fired, evicted, or refused services at a business just because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

We have more momentum than ever before. What a holiday gift it would be for LGBT people to know they are protected and treated with dignity as equal citizens in our state! Your voices of faith can be the tipping point in this campaign!

Please participate in this Faith Week of Action THIS week, Nov. 9-15, by doing the following actions as you feel called:

1) SIGN THE FAITH PETITION to encourage legislators to update the Human Relations Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity. If you are not sure that you signed this petition since August 2015, please sign again to be sure.

2) SHARE THE PETITION WITH COLLEAGUES AND FRIENDS – Reach out to at least 1 clergy person and three lay people you know with a personal invitation from you to sign. We want to tell the story of more than 1000 faith leaders and 5000 people of faith from 35 faith traditions calling for this legislative update. Use this link address to share by email, Facebook or Twitter:

3) TAKE ACTION AS A CONGREGATION If your congregation can invite members to sign petitions and/or write to legislators before, during, or after worship the weekend of Nov. 13-15, please register and we will send you materials.

4) WRITE A LETTER to your state house representative AND your state senator encouraging them to pass the Pennsylvania Fairness Act. Review the fact sheet and letters of support here. Legislators tell us they are getting form letters from Christians opposed to the legislation in the dozens. They also tell us they don’t place much stock in form letters and personalized letters make a big difference.

5) SEND A COPY of your letters to me at The leaders in the General Assembly will get a copy of each letter you send to me. They are under the impression that “the faith community” is opposed to this legislation. They have asked us to demonstrate the faith support from across the state. This is a very important part of our effort to move this legislation.

Please take a few minutes to review the toolkit to get up to speed and to review the incredible faith support in our state. It is time to encourage our legislators to do the right thing. We can’t wait.

Our volunteer faith organizers will be following up with many of you to encourage you to contact your legislators in the next two weeks. Please take action today!
