Pennsylvania State Rep. Todd Stephens Becomes 12th Republican to Co-sponsor Nondiscrimination Bill

Another Pennsylvania State Representative has signed on to co-sponsor H.B. 300, the bill to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people from discrimination. State Representative Todd Stephens is now the 12th Republican to co-sponsor this bill, joining more than 100 legislators from the House and the Senate.

Rep. Stephens’ support as a Republican shows that fairness and equality are bipartisan values.

The legislation, H.B. 300 and S.B. 300, would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in employment, housing, credit, and public accommodations. Although 32 cities and towns have municipal ordinances already in place protecting LGBT individuals from discrimination, statewide legislation is critical to ensuring that all Pennsylvanians are protected.

We are thrilled to have the support of a record-breaking number of sponsors, and thank Rep. Stephens for joining Democrats and Republicans alike to co-sponsor this important bill!

Let Rep. Stephens know that you appreciate his bipartisan leadership — contact his office and say thanks!

As our state is the only one in the region where LGBT citizens can be fired, denied a mortgage, or refused a hotel room simply because of who they are or who they love — this legislation is imperative to moving Pennsylvania forward. We appreciate the bipartisan support of legislators like Rep. Stephens and the many more who have signed on to protect LGBT citizens from discrimination!
