Equality PA endorses Senator Bob Casey, Jr. for Re-Election

HARRISBURG, PA – Equality Pennsylvania, the commonwealth’s leading organization fighting for LGBTQ fairness, equality, equity, and justice, has endorsed Senator Bob Casey, Jr. for re-election as United States Senator from Pennsylvania in the May 15, 2018 Primary Election in a unanimous vote of the organization’s governing board.

“Bob Casey has stood with the LGBTQ community over the years,” said Interim Executive Director John Dawe of Kingston. “He voted to pass the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and continues the fight for to improve school safety for LGBTQ students, expand protections against discrimination in the military or the workplace, and fight the anti-LGBTQ agendas of conservatives and the Trump administration.”

Pennsylvania remains one of the only state in the Northeastern United States that does not protect the LGBTQ community from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. There is also no federal law.

Senator Casey wrote in his endorsement request: “We must continue to do the work of growing wages, creating jobs, and increasing the affordability of healthcare, education, and retirement.  We must confront the scourge of gun violence and forces of hate that seek to divide us.  And we must keep up the fight to protect the civil rights of every Pennsylvanian.”
