Downingtown Passes Non-Discrimination Ordinance

Mayor of Downingtown, Josh Maxwell wrote on his Facebook page:

Thank you to the Downingtown Borough council members who stood up for equality tonight.

Downingtown became the 34th municipality in Pennsylvania to pass a non-discrimination ordinance on the local level. This new law, that only West Chester has passed in Chester County, makes it illegal to fire, refuse a lease to, or refuse entrance to a public event to someone who identifies as LGBT. Unfortunately, it is legal to fire someone for being LGBT in Pennsylvania. That is no longer the case in Downingtown, the vote tonight passed 3-2.

I could not be more proud to represent Downingtown. We are a modern town and live up to the slogan, Good Neighbor Community.

A special congratulations to Alex D. Rakoff for his leadership on this ordinance and a personal thank you to Adrian Shanker for his encouragement and guidance as we demonstrate Southeast Pennsylvania as an inclusive are
