Deputy Regional Organizers

Equality Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy organization, is seeking dedicated, high-achieving field staff to join its organizing team as Deputy Regional Organizers. Deputy Regional Organizers will be a primary driver of Equality PA’s Campaign for Fairness to pass nondiscrimination protections in the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2014-2015. This position involves managing express political and issue advocacy programs in specific regions across the state of Pennsylvania. Organizers will report to their corresponding Regional Field Organizer and work with a team of volunteers to build grassroots support for Equality Pennsylvania initiatives. This full-time position will begin in early October and run through July 2015. Candidates should have evening and weekend availability, as well as access to transportation. Previous experience with issue or political campaign advocacy is strongly preferred.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, and execute grassroots lobbying events throughout the DRO’s assigned region;
  • Manage existing volunteer teams and infrastructure throughout Pennsylvania;
  • Support candidates endorsed by Equality Pennsylvania through volunteer outreach and redirection;
  • Build grassroots pressure on targeted legislators through letter-writing campaigns, transfer calls, and constituent meetings;
  • Effectively educate grassroots and grasstops leaders regarding effective lobbying techniques and accurate messaging around LGBT nondiscrimination;
  • Report to and work with Regional Field Organizer and State Organizing Director to execute a plan to pass nondiscrimination legislation by July 2015.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous electoral or issue campaign experience strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated achievement managing large-scale, geographically and ethnically diverse volunteer corps;
  • Extremely strong writing and interpersonal skills;
  • Availability to work unconventional hours, including nights and weekends;
  • Access to reliable transportation;
  • Location in NE, SE, Western, or Central Pennsylvania; or willingness to relocate if necessary.
